Police in Entebbe Division are investigating a case of double murder and suspected aggravated robbery at the home of Mutaaga David and his wife, Mutaaga Deborah Florence, in Lugonjo Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that officers were alerted to the incident on the night of July 6, 2025.

The report came from a household worker who suspected an attack had taken place at the couple’s residence.

A team of officers quickly responded and discovered the lifeless bodies of 69-year-old David Mutaaga and his 62-year-old wife, Deborah Florence, at their home. Both had sustained fatal stab wounds.

The couple had recently returned to Uganda after more than three decades of working abroad in Zurich, Switzerland.

Having retired, they had settled into what they hoped would be a peaceful chapter of life in their home country. Just hours before the attack, they had hosted guests at their residence.

According to preliminary investigations, David’s body was found near the gate of the home, while Deborah’s was discovered in the bathroom. It appears there was a struggle between David and the assailant, beginning inside the house and moving toward the gate, where David ultimately collapsed from his injuries.

In a heart-wrenching detail, it is reported that Deborah, though seriously wounded, managed to reach out by phone and alert others to the attack. That desperate call may have been made as David attempted to chase or confront the intruder.

Deborah’s body was later found in the bedroom, indicating she may have retreated after the call before succumbing to her injuries.

What has deeply unsettled both investigators and the public is the lack of forced entry at the scene. The home is secured with a perimeter wall, a remote-controlled gate, and functional security cameras.

None of these systems were damaged. All doors remained intact, suggesting the attacker either had a key or had already gained access before the incident began.

Earlier that day, the couple had reportedly hosted several guests. Two casual laborers had also been hired to help with preparations, but they left in the evening, leaving David and Deborah alone in the house at the time of the attack.

Police have begun retrieving CCTV footage to help reconstruct the events and identify suspects. The two bodies were taken to the City mortuary for a postmortem examination.

This tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the Entebbe community and beyond. David and Deborah were known as kind, humble, and generous individuals.

Their story, marked by decades of service abroad and a hopeful return home, has now become a devastating reminder of the fragility of safety and the cruelty of violence.

As investigations continue, many are calling for a swift and thorough pursuit of justice. The Mutaagas did not deserve such a brutal end, and their family, friends, and country deserve answers.
